Jeremy and Theresa Sacket opened the Sacket Gallery & Studio in June 2023. Over the last year the Gallery has become a showcase of area talent featuring over 300 pieces of original art. Entering the space is like stepping into a carnival for your eyes. Gallerygoers are treated to many mediums, including art on canvas, collage, woodworking, driftwood sculptures, jewelry, photography and more.

The Gallery grew out of the Sackets deciding to “dream a little bigger,” as Theresa says. Originally, Theresa began looking for a studio space. She wanted a space outside her home to work on her art. When they found the space, they immediately knew it would make an ideal gallery due to the excellent lighting and interior layout. From there, they needed to spruce the space up a bit. They painted walls, installed hanging systems and gathered display furniture. Theresa says their dream was to “make a collaborative space and celebrate our local talent.”

Theresa shares about the beginning stages of pulling things together. “It came together pretty organically. I thought it might be rough to fill up the space and find enough artists who wanted to be a part of the gallery, but a lot of people I didn’t even know came out of the woodwork. We filled up within our first month. We had 20 artists that wanted to be a part of it initially, and we now have 3.” Theresa says there are still ways they can make room for additional artists, so if you’re an area artist interested in showing your work, get in touch with them!

Theresa and Jeremy are both in the mix when it comes to greeting customers and working the Gallery floor, depending on their schedules. With Jeremy’s office located in the Gallery and Theresa’s studio space there, one of them can always be found. Theresa enjoys meeting gallerygoers and chatting with them. “There’s lots of stories to tell about the different artists. I like telling everyone about the great talent we have in our town.” Both also admit that they enjoy being surrounded by so much beauty each day – and who could blame them! Theresa adds that it also challenges her to push herself as an artist and hone her skills even more. Jeremy goes on to add,

“The thing I like about this is, if this art wasn’t hanging here, it’d be in people’s closets. You know what I mean? Somewhere hidden. So, it does give a space for artists to actually show their work.”

Theresa does much of the behind-the-scenes work, as well as curating the space and managing the art that comes through the doors. As a part of the business, Theresa also maintains a very thorough website. The site features each artist with items in the gallery. It also includes a listing of all the items for sale. This is a great tool for anyone outside Ponca City who wants to purchase art. The Sackets welcome online sales and are more than happy to ship art to buyers.

The next project the Sackets are taking on at the Gallery will be hosting art classes. Their aim is to offer a space where local artists can teach classes based on their avenues of expertise. These will be a smaller workshop-type setting with room for 15-20 people. Be on the lookout for these offerings which will hopefully include sessions on collage work, graphite drawing, painting, figure drawing, photography, canvas & cocktails, beadmaking and more. Their goal is to offer classes for kids, teens and adults.

The Sackets also host a few Artist Mixers each year. Prior to these events, they rearrange and update the art on display. The mixers give gallerygoers a chance to see new pieces and meet the artists who have items on exhibit in the space. It also gives artists the chance to talk to other artists. The Sackets will be hosting their Meet the Artist Mixer on Friday, June 14, from 5-7 p.m. This will also be an evening to celebrate their first year in business.

“We have loved getting to know all the artists who have been a part of the gallery and are thankful to all community members who have shown support! That being said, we are sad to report that the Sacket Gallery and Studio will be closing its doors by July 1st. There will be a final Meet the Artist Mixer on Friday, June 14th from 5pm -7pm. We will have refreshments and encourage everyone to come by and support our local artists at this event,” said Theresa Sacket.

Jeremy and Theresa are both artists themselves. Theresa says she has always been drawn to art and has created art her whole life. She began exploring mediums like pastels and watercolors while still in elementary school. She took art classes throughout her academic career and still enjoys taking art classes for fun now. Theresa says watercolor is her favorite medium. Jeremy didn’t begin to dabble in art until about three years ago, though Theresa points out he’s always been creative in other ways. He doesn’t use paint brushes on any of his pieces, but focuses on using things like palette knives, rags and even his hands to manipulate paint. The couple occasionally collaborates on pieces, like some of the murals Theresa has created.

Both Jeremy and Theresa agree that their favorite thing about the Gallery is the people they get to interact with – artists and gallerygoers alike. They’ve had the pleasure of giving tours to different student groups, Scout groups, the Leadership Ponca City Class and others. Jeremy says they also have kids from nearby neighborhoods stop in to look at the art. The Gallery is a great place to look for gifts, as well. With items starting at around $10 and going up from there, shoppers can find one-of-a-kind items for anyone on their shopping list.

For more information about the Gallery contact Jeremy or Theresa Sacket at (580) 749-8008 or via email at sacketmedia@gmail.com. Sacket Gallery and Studio will be closing its doors by July 1st. There will be a final Meet the Artist Mixer on Friday, June 14th from 5pm -7pm at 719 E. Hartford Avenue. They will have refreshments and they encourage everyone to come by and support our local artists at this event.
